While Geneva became the centre of global debate on the future of medicine for a few days, there was also a Polish accent among the leaders and innovators. NEO Hospital, which runs the Szpital na Klinach in Krakow, presented its projects among the highest-rated initiatives, confirming its position as one of the most technologically advanced hospitals in Europe.
NEO Hospital’s innovative solutions recognised by global experts
Geneva was another place where specialists from the Szpital na Klinach shared their knowledge and experience. During the 48th Congress of the International Hospital Federation (IHF), which brought together over 1,500 participants from all continents and representatives of 86 countries, the Krakow centre presented projects in the field of gynaecological and oncological robotics and prehabilitation.
48th World Hospital Congress Geneva proved to be exceptional for the Szpital na Klinach – the presentation of the facility was included in the elite group of only 12% of the best-rated projects out of over 1,200 submissions. This distinction confirmed that the innovative solutions implemented at the hospital are recognised and appreciated by global experts.
As part of the „Lightning Talk” session, Dr Krzysztof Mawlichanów presented his team’s experience in the use of robotics in gynaecological oncology. His presentation was included in the section devoted to the latest achievements in surgery, alongside presentations by specialists from the USA, Germany, Portugal, Brazil and China. Dr Mawlichanów discussed both the results of a research and development project carried out at the Szpital na Klinach and the practical aspects of using robotics in the treatment of gynaecological cancers.
“Participating in this unique event is an honour for us, but above all, it is an inspiring space for exchanging knowledge with experts from around the world. Our research confirms that the use of robotics in gynaecology significantly reduces surgical trauma, decreases the number of complications, and shortens recovery time. Patients experience real benefits, which are the goal of all our activities” – emphasised Krzysztof Mawlichanów, MD, PhD.

Prehabilitation that attracts international experts
The second part of the Szpital na Klinach participation in the 48th World Hospital Congress Geneva was a poster session, during which Agnieszka Golec-Cera presented the Pilot Prehabilitation Programme preparing patients for surgical treatment. The programme shortens hospitalisation time, reduces the risk of complications and supports a faster return to full fitness.
The poster attracted considerable interest among event participants. Questions were asked about the organisation of the programme, patient eligibility criteria, the preparation process for procedures, and measures taken to improve treatment outcomes. The Szpital na Klinach stand was visited by representatives of centres from Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria and the United Kingdom, among others.
“We are delighted with the enormous interest in prehabilitation, which we are developing as one of the first centres in Poland. We can see how much of an impact proper patient preparation has on treatment outcomes – both physical and nutritional, as well as psychological. The fact that representatives of centres from so many countries have asked about the details of our activities shows that Polish solutions are competitive and fully in line with global trends” – says Joanna Szyman, president of the NEO Hospital Group, which owns the Szpital na Klinach.

Polish solutions in the global discussion on the future of medicine
The participation of the Szpital na Klinach in the 48th World Hospital Congress Geneva confirmed that the centre’s development direction – combining innovation, research and clinical practice – is in line with the most important trends in international healthcare. The team’s presentations were recognised by experts and representatives of institutions from around the world.
The slogan of this year’s event – ‘Global education, local action for every patient’ – perfectly reflects the approach implemented at the Szpital na Klinach. Participation in the IHF Congress has once again shown that Polish centres can actively contribute to the standards of modern medicine, and that the solutions developed in Krakow are noticed and appreciated on the international stage.
